Exclusive London Event Announced to Promote Living in Portugal and Government Incentives to Buy
The Association of Portuguese Resorts (APR) in collaboration with Turismo de Portugal invites those interested in buying a property in Portugal to the exclusive ‘Living in Portugal – Why Buy Now?’ event, which will be hosted at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower, Knightsbridge, SW1X 9PY on Thursday, 1st May. The event will highlight the country’s current property investment opportunities and lifestyle aspects.
Guests are invited to discover a variety of leading resorts, sample speciality Portuguese food and wine and receive independent advice from experts in tax, finance and property. The main initiatives to be discussed during the event include the Golden Visa Programme for non-EU residents and the tax incentives for retirees and high earners.
Speakers include Charles Metcalfe, TV presenter and author of The Wine and Food Lover’s Guide to Portugal, Diogo Gaspar Ferreira, Chairman of the APR, Pedro Fontainhas, Executive Director of APR, and Directors from Santander Bank and Deloitte.
Like most of Europe, Portugal’s property prices have plunged since 2008, down 29.4 per cent in some regions. The average house price for a property lies at €1,371 per square meter, maintaining Portugal’s position as a strong competitor for France (average of €2,599 per square meter) and Spain (average of €1,495 per square meter).*
Pedro Fontainhas comments: “It is an ideal time to think about buying a property in Portugal. As prices are still very competitive at this stage, many buyers realise the investment opportunities this market holds. Our event is ideal for property buyers who are either looking for a holiday, retirement or permanent home in Portugal. Guests can view property on a variety of leading resorts throughout the evening but also receive independent advice and information from a number of experts.”
Retirees currently benefit from a tax break of 10 years on their pension, and additionally there is a tax rate of 20% for high earning foreigners that are paid from other countries if they reside in Portugal. These measures make Portugal attractive to those at retirement age and high income working professionals that can be based anywhere in Europe.
‘Living in Portugal – Why Buy Now?’ is free of charge to those with an interest in buying property and will commence with welcome drinks and canapés at 6.00pm and close at 9.00pm.
