Limousin – A Rising Star Destination in France with Michelin Star Status

The strength of the pound and low mortgage rates are encouraging overseas property buyers back to Europe and British buyers have been seeking-out the next rising star region in the popular low-risk market of France.  According to Rightmove Overseas, France is attracting more interest with the total number of monthly searches in Limousinrising 26% to a total of 42,768 from May 2013-14. The Creuse department of Limousinhas been further boosted by the recent award (February 2014) of a Michelin star at Halcyon Retreat Golf & Spa Resort.

Limousin in the south west is a relatively unknown region in the Midi-Pyrenees known as ‘The Land of a Thousand Lakes’ and thought of as the traditional heart of ‘real France’.  Limousin is one of France’s smallest regions but this rural backdrop is a perfect setting for the new homes atHalcyon Retreat Golf & Spa Resort.  The development has a show-stopping chateau centre piece, the historic ‘Châteaude la Cazine’ luxury hotel and is resplendent with its own fishing lakes and woodlands, which resonate with Britons who love the great outdoors.

Easy transport links are an advantage and Halcyon Retreat is conveniently accessed with direct flights by Ryanair to Limoges available from many UK airports including Bristol, Manchester, Leeds and London Stansted.  For those wishing to pack-up the car and drive, the A20 links from Paris (3 hrs& 30 mins) and the TGV rail route links from Paris to Limoges (3 hrs 15 mins/350kms).There have been additional reports of improved train links in the area too in the coming years.

The capital, Limoges is a popular medium-sized city with quaint cobbled streets, excellent shopping, porcelain museums and architecturally impressive buildings including the Cathedral of Saint-Etienne.Further north, the medieval village of La Souterraine with its historical walls and eleventh century church is on the Camino de Santiago de Compestela trail and recommended for its historical architecture. There are numerous other historic villages suitable for day trips and the three main lakes in Creuse(Etand de la Grande Cazine, Lac de Saint Pardoux and LarcD’Eguzon)offerwatersports such as fishing, swimming, canoeing, sailing and hiking.
