“The ski chalet market above 1M Euros had slowed down in terms of supply and demand for the first 6 months of 2013, but from July onwards, interest and sales have picked up considerably. I seem to be spending four days a week with clients and two in the office, whereas it was the opposite prior to the summer holidays. This is due to the excellent bank rates we are seeing (the best in 50 years), and also the amount of time that many properties have been on the market – making them very negotiable. With a move back to the old, more favourable CGT rules on second homes since September 1st, many sellers are able to offer their properties at lower prices, and new properties are coming on the market regularly. Combine this with an increase in buyer confidence thanks to all the good news coming from the UK, and the result is definitely: ‘it’s time to buy!’. We are negotiating between 10-30% off asking prices depending on the seller’s situation, and have seen some ‘eat my hat’ deals going through over the past couple of months”
