Lisbon, Portugal – February 2026 – Andaz Lisbon, the much-anticipated new hotel in the heart of the capital, set to open in March 2026, proudly presents its new staff uniforms, designed by acclaimed Portuguese fashion designer Carla Pontes. This distinctive collaboration celebrates a contemporary dialogue between Portuguese craft, culture, and hospitality.

Created exclusively for Andaz Lisbon, the uniform’s creative concept draws inspiration from the hybrid and mystical figures of Portuguese popular art, with particular emphasis on the Figurado de Barcelos, a certified and emblematic form of folk art.

Rooted in everyday life, as well as religious and pagan traditions, these hand-modelled clay sculptures informed the project’s vision. Their expressive forms and vibrant colours influenced the colour palette, graphic patterns and custom-designed jewellery, conceived as integral elements of the uniforms. Together, these elements create a dialogue between contemporary hospitality design and Portugal’s rich artisanal heritage.

The uniforms are conceived as unique pieces that balance structured and fluid materials,expressing a modern, distinctive and refined spirit. A light, luminous colour palette, inspired by the natural light of Lisbon, supports comfortable, active silhouettes designed to keep pace with the dynamics of daily work. Versatile coat closures and adaptable design details allow for multiple ways of wearing each piece, encouraging personal expression while maintaining a cohesive and practical uniform language.

The uniform project for Andaz Lisbon was developed in close collaboration with illustrator Melissa Antunes and jewellery designer Joana Santos, whose contributions were fundamental to shaping the visual and material identity of the uniforms.

It was essential to create garments that feel natural, timeless and deeply connected to place in such an exciting, new hotel.

“It’s been a really collaboratively process from the initial brief, through to the final product. I love exploring the relationship between textiles and three-dimensional bodies through a minimalist and process-driven approach, with eco-design principles at the core of my practice.”

The hotel’s ethos of immersive, locally-rooted luxury while embodying the modern elegance and artisanal sensitivity for which Carla Pontes is renowned for. Beyond aesthetics, sustainability and durability were central to the design process, with careful consideration given to fabric selection and longevity, aligning with Andaz Lisbon’s commitment to responsible luxury.

The brand-new hotel will offer a vibrant and immersive experience that reflects Lisbon’s rich cultural heritage and artistic spirit, welcoming both locals and global travelers alike.

Nestled on Rua do Comércio in the heart of the city’s historic Baixa district, the hotel is steps away from Lisbon’s most emblematic landmarks, including the majestic Rua Augusta Arch and the historic Praça do Comércio. The landmark location, where navigators and merchants once gathered, is a fusion of Moorish heritage and Pombaline elegance, reimagined for the modern traveller.
